From a news article "Japanese expects SoftBank Apple iPhone?"[Japanese site]:
According to the survey, 70.2% said they know iPhone and 16.2% said they know the name but don't know what it is. This shows that the name of "iPhone" is widely recognized among Japanese consumers.
This survey was completed by 1341 people who have subscribed to the survey company's mail transfer service. I think this number is quite high.
When asked which career they project to contract to iPhone in Japan, 53.0% of the respondents said SoftBank Mobile, followed by au by KDDI (19.6%) and NTT DoCoMo (17.1%).
I wonder which career the respondents are using now.
Oh, the press release got the number:
Career the respondents are currently using: NTT DoCoMo 28.1%, au by KDDI 28.3%, SoftBank 24.8%, WILLCOM 17.9%, and Other
Hmm, not big difference.
Although everybody seems to be waiting for iPhone to come to Japan,
When asked if they would buy iPhone when it hits Japan (including model upgrade), 40.2% said they would wait and see, 28.2% said they are not interested in, 22.0% said it depends on price, and 9.6% said they would buy.
Only one in ten said they would buy iPhone. That's not many.
When asked what feature they expect iPhone to have when they hit Japan, 44.6% said One Seg television, 37.1% said high-speed communication, 36.2% said GPS/LBS, 34.6% said thinner body, and 33.1% said exchangeable/expandable memory.
Wow, I did not know One Seg was such a popular feature. Maybe they could check all the "nice-to-have” features on the survey sheet?
