$199 notebook “Eee PC” comes to Japan

January 16, 2008 4:56 PM

According to the article titled "$199 notebook ‘Eee PC’ going on sale in Japan at around 50,000 yen [jp]”:

ASUSTeK announced that they would release "Eee PC" in Japan. This low-priced mobile notebook has been receiving much attention in the U.S. market.

The launch is scheduled around February 2008, and the price, which probably many of you are most concerned about, is said to be around 50,000 yen.

Although the name says $199, they have been sold at around $299-399 in the U.S. market. Still cheap as a notebook though.

If the price in Japan was around 35,000-40,000 yen, they would have attracted more attention, but that would be too much to expect considering that they run Windows XP.

If the price was as low as the US counterpart, many people would have considered buying one, but if it carries a price tag of over 50,000yen? Well, I need to consider before putting it in my shopping cart.

Here’s some basic information about the PC. For those interested -- I think many of you are -- detailed reviews are available online (like here).

* A5 mini-notebook PC
* About 0.92 kg
* 7inch wide LCD
* WVGA(800x480)
* SD memory card slot

You'll find some reviews on "ibukuro [jp]", too.
