From a news article "Monthly average time spent on Nico Nico Douga goes twice longer than YouTube" (in Japan):

According to a recent research about the time spent on video sharing sites in May 2007 (home audience only) published by NetRatings, the average time spent per person on Nico Nico Douga was 2:10:28(hh:mm:ss), the longest of all, and twice longer than YouTube.

User numbers were:

YouTube 11,648,000
Nico Nico Douga 1,354,000

YouTube has about ten times more users than Nico Nico Douga. However, if you compare by the average time spent, the numbers were(hh:mm:ss):

YouTube 1:02:08
Nico Nico Douga 2:10:28

Nico Nico Douga goes twice more than YouTube.

True, there is something with Nico Nico Douga that makes users take time and watch longer videos..

The report said that there is one video sharing site abroad that is rapidly growing access from Japan almost as fast as YouTube. This site -- Dailymotion -- has multilingual user interface (including Japanese version) and has 1,636,000 unique user/month.
I am surprised to know that "Dailymotion" is ranked 2nd in user numbers.
