According to an article titled “Games for everybody ranked high in the annual Dentsu ranking [jp]”:
On December 28, Dentsu announced its annual “Japan's most attractive and talked-about products of the year”. In the 2007 ranking, portable game machines with a touch-pen (ex. Nintendo DS) came to the top, followed by a new kind of family game machines with a controller (ex. Nintendo Wii.).According to the ranking, the top was a portable game console with a touch-pen. That is Nintendo DS Lite, you know.
Then, the second place was "a new kind of family games with a controller". Obviously, that is Wii.
Wow, Nintendo took up both first and second places. They both have the impression of long-life products as well.
Other products appeared in the ranking were: "Billy Blanks Boot Camp" (3rd), digital cameras(4th), and widescreen televisions (5th). Widescreen televisions were ranked 2nd in the 2006 ranking.
Another news [jp] referring to the Dentsu ranking reported that:
Dentsu stated the key word for the consumption style of 2007-2008 as "conversations"."Products that can be used with others (family, friends, etc) and raise conversations among people tend to be a big hit” said a Dentsu spokesperson. Hmm, this might be another evidence of the power of word-of-mouth marketing?
