WILLCOM to Release a Handheld Device with Full PC Functions?
January 28, 2008 3:02 PM
From an article: “WILLCOM to Release a Handheld Device with Full PC Functions and New Intel Platform in 2008 [jp]”.
WILLCOM is developing a device that carries Intel’s new mobile processor called Menlow (code name).
At the 2008 International CES held in U.S.A., WILLCOM presented a mockup that had its name "WILLCOM" on it.
An instructor at the booth explained that they could not prepare a prototype due to time constraints and instead presented a mockup to show the size of the new device.
Hmmm……. That looks like NTT docomo’s “sigmarion”. The device is said to be carrying Windows but will that be Windows CE?
The article also said that the device would be available in mid-2008. If that’s true, we still have a half year to go.
In the old days, if I hear such news, I would be wanting one badly, but now I'm not sure. If the new device will actually be offered with Windows CE and the network speed of WILLCOM, I’d rather go with 3G+iPhone.
In the first place, the device is not even a telephone.
You can find more detailed repot here: “WILLCOM presents a prototype with Menlow [jp]”.
According to the Intel's spokesperson, this product is a “data device” carrying Menlow as its platform, and comes with 1GB memory, a storage (ex. HDD, SSD), and a PHS communication module.
If I can use it with e-mobile, I might think about getting one… no, no. If I’m using it as a PC, network speed will be a bottle neck anyway.
I need more information to make up my mind…
